Slaying The Dragon

Updated: Oct 12, 2021

Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.

Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

One of my dear family members just said I was like a warrior princess and that reminded me of the quote above. I imagine I am slaying my dragon within. Or rather, taming it. I need it, you see…to behave in the manner for which it was created. It requires my love.

This brings me to two subjects near and dear to my healing. My liver specialist and well…food

I have to give a shout out to my accidentally acquired GI who we found in Colorado Springs. He is with Associates in Gastroenterology in Colorado Springs Dr C. Scott Swendsen, Board Certified in Gastroenterology and Liver Disease.

I say accidentally because we travel all the time and we’re just leaving one state to head to another and I was lost on what to do best or who would help me. Neil found the association on google. All we knew is I needed someone who could shed some light on this condition we knew nothing about. We were aligned with Dr. Swendsen and all I can say is what a wonderful doctor and human being. He has been a positive and knowledgeable force and I can’t thank him enough for his patience with all of my questions, his answers that I can actually understand and the fact he responds to me himself from my medical portal. Amazing. I thank him for helping me to strengthen my armor.

Well the second thing is food. Finding food that is good, and healthy

all at once? Magical. My dinner tonight I shout out to my husband who used to be a competition BBQ guy. He stepped up to the

plate when I said I love your food. Now take out all the sugar, fat and salt. Whaaat? Well he did and boy am I in heaven. Thanks, honey. Neil is the best. And #burninbenjamins was my favorite team.

Love, Sue
