Hypothyroidism and Liver Disease

I found out I had an under active thyroid in 2006. Never did I consider that maybe I should change something I was doing, instead I just accepted the meds as the only thing that could help me and as the years went on, that dosage just kept going up. Until now.

Blanche Scharf, in Natural Health 365 states “Subclinical hypothyroidism has been found to be linked to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It is linked to NAFLD separate from known metabolic risk factors. Without enough thyroid hormones, many of your body’s functions slow down. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can be caused by hypothyroidism. Poor nutritional is one of the primary root causes for thyroid disorders because it is a nutrient dependent gland. A diet that is high in processed foods, which are high in sugar and omega 6 fatty acids can lead to deficiency in key nutrients that regulate thyroid hormone production. Excesses of omega 6 fatty acids harm the thyroid. On the other hand liver dysfunction can also affect the thyroid. If your liver is impaired, your body may be unable to convert T4 to the active T3 hormone correctly. For both a healthy liver and thyroid a whole food diet is needed.”

In conclusion it is growing more apparent to me every day how all things are connected. My focus is shifting to addressing all things and not just accepting as final. Continue to advocate and research your own health issues my dears. It may just mean everything!

Love, Sue
