Four Years Alcohol-Free: A Life Upgraded, A Liver Healed, and Faith Restored

Tomorrow marks four years alcohol-free, and the day i started healing my liver. I’m celebrating more than just time passing—I’m celebrating the transformation. This is a choice that many people don’t even consider, but the truth is, we can upgrade our lives. We have the power to intentionally make our lives better, to choose joy and fulfillment without relying on alcohol to create a false sense of happiness.

For so long, alcohol was my shortcut, the easy way to trick my brain into thinking I was having a good time. But that “good time”? It was a lie. A fleeting burst of dopamine that distracted me from the deeper, more meaningful joy waiting to be discovered.

Today, I’m also celebrating the day I began healing my liver. When I quit drinking and overhauled my diet (also losing well over 100 pounds), I knew I had liver disease, and choosing to change was the first step in giving my body a chance to heal. It’s been a journey of patience and restoration, and I’m deeply grateful for the progress I’ve made in both my health and my life.

But the real turning point came three years in, when I found my faith. That’s when I realized that He had been with me all along, guiding me even when I didn’t know it. Faith became my anchor, strengthening me and carrying me through the toughest moments. It was through His grace that I found the courage to keep moving forward, to trust in my own potential, and to believe in the greater purpose that was unfolding.

Shortly after finding my faith, I discovered Alcoholics Anonymous. AA became a crucial part of my self-growth. It provided me with the tools, support, and accountability I needed to continue my journey. It wasn’t just about staying sober—it was about healing, growing, and becoming the person I was meant to be. The fellowship of AA became a mirror, helping me reflect on who I truly was and who I wanted to become.

When I removed alcohol from my life, it felt like a massive void. I wasn’t sure where to begin. Life seemed overwhelming without that crutch. But the truth is, we don’t need alcohol to create a life that’s truly extraordinary. Stripping away the illusion of alcohol means we get to build something real—something amazing and lasting.

Letting go of that “quick fix” meant rediscovering what really brings me joy. That’s where the magic happens. Change doesn’t happen by wishing for it—it happens by creating it.
