An Excerpt From NOOM

I am following NOOM and one of todays lessons was about eating styles. They have covered this before in the many months I have followed and it came around today and was a great reminder.

for the first time in my life I 💯 quality as a fuel eater but always fell in the other three categories before with fuel being a very small portion. As you can imagine I swear by the fuel eating style now.

Just a little food for thought on a Sunday.

Directly from NOOM below.

“Why and When You Eat Matters

In her book If I'm So Smart, Why Can't I Lose Weight?, author Brook Castillo outlines four types of eating: Fuel Eating, Joy Eating, Fog Eating, and Storm Eating.

  • Fuel Eating is to give your body what it needs to thrive and do its job. Fuel foods are healthy foods like lean meat, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, etc. Castillo says, "Fuel foods are like employees that have a job to do in your body," and she recommends eating fuel foods 90% of the time.

  • Joy Eating is food you eat because it tastes good and you enjoy it, like rich, home-cooked foods and decadent desserts. We recognize joy foods aren't great for you, but from a practical stand point, you will inevitably eat them — and that's okay! Castillo recommends that they should not account for more than 10% of your diet.

  • Fog Eating is eating that you don't realize you're doing. Think about candies in a dish at the office, popcorn at the movies, or having a bag of Cheetos on your desk. You should strive to eliminate as much fog eating as possible.

  • Storm Eating is a very different type of eating: it's "eating when you aren't hungry, knowing that you are doing it, and feeling unable to stop even though you want to stop." Storm eating is much more psychological than it is physical. Castillo recommends if you see yourself doing it, try stopping to see what happens. Also, more importantly, "Never beat yourself up for overeating. Ever." Storm eating often comes from denying yourself forbidden foods for far too long. If you begin to eat fuel foods and manage joy foods, storm eating tends to disappear.
